Christmas decorations on sale in August sparks mixed reactions as one reader says she's got her Christmas Tree up already

Shops have started selling Christmas items in August which has sparked mixed reactions

News that Christmas decorations are on sale in some shops locally already has sparked a mixture of strong opinions from readers. Some people said that Christmas can bring joy all year round, with one reader admitting that she's got her tree up already.

But others felt that it's far too early to be thinking about Christmas, as the kids aren't even back at school after the summer holidays. Discount store Home Bargains started selling Christmas decorations this month - four months before the big day.

It is one of the first stores in the country to fill their aisles and shelves with baubles, tinsels and Christmas cards. One store in Tamworth shows the shelves packed with Christmas goodies with various gold, red and green items.

Amanda Cole says that shops should 'sell stuff when they want' and added: "Some people find a lot of joy in Christmas, and if it helps people's mental health to put their thought and effort towards something then why shouldn’t the shops sell stuff when they want."

Sally Layng loves seeing Christmas stuff in the shops as it 'makes her happy' and said: "If you don't like it, just walk straight past it."

Susan Rowley visited the Home Bargains in Bedworth as saw 'Halloween items one side' and 'Christmas stuff on the other' and added: "I don't blame them as families haven't got the money to buy all together, so buy a couple of items at a time until they have what they need."

Christine Mary said: "Don't know why it's caused a stir, if you don't want to look, don't go down the aisle. Simple."

However, not everyone agreed that it was a positive move, with some saying it 'spoils the excitement' of the lead up to Christmas.

Anita Jones said: "It won't be long before they put them out for sale on Easter Monday or probably sell them all year round."

Marian Keeble said: "Aaarrrggghh! Spoils it - such a long run up takes the excitement out of it." Diane Wood added: "Get Halloween out of the way at least."

Wane Reilly added: "Boycott the store, it's stupid selling them this early."
